Murder Charge Sought on Warren Wife Disappearance
MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will move to add a charge of First Degree Murder against Loyd DeJohn tomorrow in Warren District Court.
DeJohn, 46, is scheduled to appear for preliminary examination before Judge Matthew Sabaugh tomorrow morning on an Assault – Great Bodily Harm charge. Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith will seek to increase the charges to one count of First Degree Murder – Premeditated, a mandatory life felony, one count of Disinterment and Mutilation of a Dead Body, and one count of Aggravated Domestic Violence.
The charges stem from the disappearance of Kimberly DeJohn from her Warren home in early May. During the course of an intensive police investigation, officers received a tip from an inmate at the Macomb County Jail that led them to Afton, Michigan. A police search discovered her body in a makeshift grave there on an abandoned property near M-68.
Following an autopsy, Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz ruled the death a homicide by ligature strangulation.
Loyd DeJohn remains in custody on $1,000,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 8:45 a.m. in the 37th District Court, Warren.
