Murder Charges Issued in Eastpointe Stabbings
MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — An Eastpointe man stands accused of murdering his girlfriend and their 13-month-old daughter.
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith today charged Curtis Hampton, 30, with two counts of First Degree Murder for the stabbing deaths of Monique Rakowski and their infant daughter Carmon. Police and prosecutors believe the murders took place between nine p.m. and midnight on Thursday, February 12.
Hampton will be arraigned before Judge Carl Gerds, 38th District Court, Eastpointe, at 1:00 p.m. today.
Prosecutor Smith said, “I am acutely aware and deeply upset by the number of domestic violence cases in our community. More needs to be done to end the cycle of violence. In Macomb County, I urge victims of domestic violence to contact their local police departments, and to seek assistance from Turning Point at 586-463-4430.”
Eastpointe Police Lieutenant Neil Childs said, “Our thoughts are with the Rakowski family during this trying time. We would like to thank the Dearborn Police Department and the Eastpointe Police Department for their diligent detective work that led to the apprehension of the suspect. We will continue to work with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to ensure a positive outcome in this matter.”
