MURDER CHARGES ISSUED IN MOUNT CLEMENS SHOOTING
MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — A Clinton Township man stands accused of murdering a man in his ex-girlfriend’s home this past weekend.
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith, today, charged Dominic Watson, 34, with First Degree Murder, a felony punishable by life without parole; First Degree Home Invasion, a 20-year felony; Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, a 4-year felony; and four counts of Felony Firearm, a 2-year felony to be served consecutively with and preceding any term of imprisonment for the felony or attempted felony conviction.
Police and prosecutors allege the defendant broke into the Mount Clemens home of his ex-girlfriend, late Sunday, September 22, 2019. The defendant proceeded to a bedroom located on the first floor of the home. He then shot the victim multiple times, striking him in the face, left arm/shoulder, and left leg. The defendant then fled the home. The victim was conscious when first responders arrived, but passed away at the hospital in the emergency room.
“Every day we see more and more cases involving unnecessary acts of violence in our communities,” Prosecutor Smith said. “In what we suspect was an act fueled by jealousy, the defendant mercilessly took another man’s life.”
A sheriff deputy driving north on Little Mack Avenue, near the defendant’s residence, noticed a man matching the description of the suspect walking north. The man identified himself as Dominic Watson and was taken into custody without incident.
“I applaud the efforts of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department,” stated Prosecutor Smith. “Cases like this reinforce the true professionalism and due diligence of those law enforcement officers who serve our community.”
Watson was arraigned this afternoon in 41-B District Court, Clinton Township. He was denied bond and remains in custody in the Macomb County Jail.
